Most of the photographs of beautiful places and yoga on my website are taken by Wayne Tompkins. Wayne is an Aboriginal man at home on the coast, in the ocean, on the beach, in the bush. Wayne communicates through his photos. Photography is a way for him to connect to the world. It is his art form and his way to be heard and seen. He is happy with a camera in his hand, happy to be recording his point of view. He is driven to document life through the eyes of a black fella, through the lens, as a way of showing the way he sees the world. Wayne’s photos let us see Australia through an Aboriginal’s eyes. Photography is his way to get out of being stereotyped. He enjoys the escape of being behind a camera. He wants his photography to be inspiring and to help break stereotypes, to show positive, inspiring stories. His photos are a way of connecting to and sharing with the broader community. He thinks Aboriginal people have been left in the dark too long and, for him, the way to be taken notice of is through his images. If you would like to purchase any of Wayne’s photos or commission him to do photographic work please contact him directly.
